[Book Review] If You Keep Me by Helena Hunting

Things I should never, under any circumstances ever do: ask my secret crush, aka. the most notorious (reformed) playboy in pro hockey, to take my virginity.

Too bad, I did.

After a string of terrible dates, I did the unthinkable. I propositioned Flip Madden.
Of course, he said no.

It isnโ€™t that heโ€™s almost a decade older than me, or that Iโ€™m still in university.
Itโ€™s because Iโ€™m his coachโ€™s oldest daughter.
Not to mention my dad would bludgeon him with his hockey stick if he found out.
Which he wonโ€™t, because it will never happen.

And now things are awkward because thereโ€™s no going back.

Except Flip is more protective than ever, and his eyes follow me around every room weโ€™re in together. He brings flowers to my recitals and reads all the books I recommend.

Things I should never, under any circumstances ever do: hope Flip Madden might actually want me too.

Review

Itโ€™s finally Flip and Tallyโ€™s turn and wow, what a bittersweet read. This is the last book in the Terror series and Iโ€™m sad to see it end, but Iโ€™ve been waiting for Flipโ€™s story since the very first book, and it was so worth it.

Tallyโ€™s eldest-daughter energy really hit me, the sense of responsibility she carries for her siblings is so relatable, Iโ€™ve never felt so seen through a character. Flip, on the other hand, has grown so much since book one, and it was truly lovely to watch him mature and step fully into his feelings.

Things I loved:

  • The slow-burn romance between Tally & Flip โ€” the pacing and development felt perfect
  • The dancing scenes! Pure joy โœจ
  • Flip going โ€œall inโ€ once he committed โ€” the way he treated Tally with love and respect gave me ALL the feels
  • Seeing familiar faces from the previous books, which always warms my heart
  • Parsnip! (You know who you are ๐Ÿ˜…)

Things that didnโ€™t quite land for me:

  • Thereโ€™s a lot of spice, which is fine, but a few moments felt unnecessary
  • Tallyโ€™s dadโ€ฆ I struggled to like him. He was justโ€ฆ frustrating

Overall, this is a fantastic conclusion to the Terror series. Flip & Tallyโ€™s story was everything I hoped for โ€” heartfelt, passionate, and satisfying. Iโ€™m still holding out hope we get more glimpses into this world, because Iโ€™m definitely not ready to say goodbye.
