Ahh I was so excited to read this book. I was lucky enough to get an ARC of Powerless a few months before its release so the wait for this book has felt so loooong. I don’t know what I was expecting from the sequel but it wasn’t the story I got and I mean that in the best way as I didn’t love how Powerless ended.
Paedyn is on the run after killing the king and Kai has been given the task of tracking her down by the new King (his brother Kitt). Kai’s pursuit of Paedyn takes him across scorching deserts and a city that doesn’t take well to outsiders.
I just loved the journey that Paedyn and Kai go on, the growth between them and their understanding of each other really evolves and it makes their relationship richer. It gave them so much depth. The book was much more character-driven than Powerless as it’s more about Kai and Paedyn learning more about each other and discovering secrets that neither of them could have ever predicted.
Overall, at its core Reckless is a story of two people who, despite their past mistakes and the hurt they’ve caused each other, still find their way back to love and understanding, no matter how hard they try not to. It was just a beautiful read and if you thought the ending of Powerless was cliff cliffhanger then buckle up because this was worse.
