[Book Review] Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas

Summary

Everyone Celaena Sardothien loves has been taken from her. But she’s at last returned to the empire—for vengeance, to rescue her once-glorious kingdom, and to confront the shadows of her past…

She has embraced her identity as Aelin Galathynius, Queen of Terrasen. But before she can reclaim her throne, she must fight.

She will fight for her cousin, a warrior prepared to die for her. She will fight for her friend, a young man trapped in an unspeakable prison. And she will fight for her people, enslaved to a brutal king and awaiting their lost queen’s triumphant return.

The fourth volume in the New York Times bestselling series continues Celaena’s epic journey and builds to a passionate, agonizing crescendo that might just shatter her world.

Review

I don’t even know where to begin with this review, this book was such a ride.

Celaena is back in Rifthold, she has returned to free magic but when she learns her cousin is to be executed by the King her plans become more complicated.

We have even more new characters to meet, including, Lysandra, Arobynn, Lorcan, and Elide. I really love the ensemble of characters that these books introduce, each one of them has their own role to play and it really gives the story depth.

Celaena navigates a lot in this book, including the treacherous waters of politics and warfare, that true strength comes not from wielding a sword, but from standing together with those you love, even when the odds are stacked against you.

I could go into a lot of detail about everything that happens but that would give too much away so I’ll finish up by saying that this was my favorite book so far, some of the scenes are just perfection, and my personal favorite is Rowan sassing Arobynn, it never gets old.

“Rowan moved deeper into the entry hall, every step laced with power and death, coming to a stop at her side. “You can call me Rowan. That’s all you need to know.” He cocked his head to the side, a predator assessing prey. “Thank you for the oil,” he added. “My skin was a little dry.”

My Rating: 5/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟Line small Diamond
