[Book Review] Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Summary

Beautiful. Deadly. Destined for greatness.

In a land without magic, where the king rules with an iron hand, Celaena, an assassin, is summoned to the castle. She comes not to kill the king, but to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three killers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she is released from prison to serve as the king’s champion.

The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. But something evil dwells in the castle of glass—and it’s there to kill. When her competitors start dying one by one, Celaena’s fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival, and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world.

Review

.After finishing HOFAS I was in such a bad book slump, so I did the thing I thought I’d never do and re-read TOG.

I love the entire Throne of Glass series but when I read this book the first time around it felt like such a struggle to get through. This time was strangely different, I really appreciated all the info-dumping and the world-building in a way that I didn’t before. I think though it’s because I went into this re-read with an open mind to find out any clues that could be related to the Crescent City Series.

Celaena is taken from the slave camp in Endovier and thrown into a deadly competition to become the king’s Champion. Celaena is an assassin by trade but has been thoroughly malnourished in the year that she has spent being a slave.

I’d totally forgotten how young Celaena is at the beginning of this series so that was a shock, and it certainly explains her impulsiveness. What I hadn’t forgotten was how utterly insufferable Chaol… he’s always irked me and that’s not changed. I do have a newfound liking for Dorian, I always thought he was kind of Meh, but I am enjoying reading he’s parts of the story.

I really enjoyed reading this book, and I cannot wait to re-read the rest of this series.

My Rating: 4/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟Line small Diamond
