Summary

Ten women. A deadly contest. Only one can win the Sun King’s heart.
Lor has endured twelve long years of torment under the Aurora King’s rule. Her only desire is to escape and pay him back for every moment of misery she’s endured.
When a surprise release finds her in the hands of the rival Sun King, Lor is thrust into the spotlight as she competes against nine other Tributes for the role of queen. If she wins his heart, she’ll earn her freedom and finally get her revenge.
But Lor doesn’t belong in the Sun Queen Trials. Not only does she not understand why she was freed, she isn’t a citizen of the Sun King’s court. The other Tributes resent her presence and will stop at nothing to ensure Lor is removed from the competition, permanently.
Now Lor must win, because if she loses, she dies. Or worse, she’ll be returned to the evil—and now vengeful—Aurora King.

Review
I think this was a bookstagram recommendation or maybe a sponsored post… anyway, I decided to give it a go.
The story itself was pretty interesting and I liked our main Character Lor, she has suffered a lot as she has been in prison since she was a child with her brother and sister. One day she is taken from the prison by a guard from another court to participate in the Sun Queen Trials.
For the most part, I did like this book, it did have some weak points, particularly the trials, they seemed a little rushed and needlessly harsh. I also didn’t love the switch in from first Pov (for Lor) to third person for (Nadir) I found it to be a bit jarring.
I knew from the get-go that something was up with the Sun King, my guy was giving Red Flag vibes all over. Lor was a badass throughout the story, she saw through Atlas’s (the Sun King) façade fairly quickly, her gut instincts were on point.
I’m intrigued to see where this series is going to go so I’ll probably give the next book a go.
My Rating: 3/5 🌟🌟🌟
