[Book Review] The American Roommate Experiment

Summary

Rosie Graham has a problem. A few, actually. She just quit her well paid job to focus on her secret career as a romance writer. She hasn’t told her family and now has terrible writer’s block. Then, the ceiling of her New York apartment literally crumbles on her. Luckily she has her best friend Lina’s spare key while she’s out of town. But Rosie doesn’t know that Lina has already lent her apartment to her cousin Lucas, who Rosie has been stalking—for lack of a better word—on Instagram for the last few months. Lucas seems intent on coming to her rescue like a Spanish knight in shining armour. Only this one strolls around the place in a towel, has a distracting grin, and an irresistible accent. Oh, and he cooks.

Lucas offers to let Rosie stay with him, at least until she can find some affordable temporary housing. And then he proposes an outrageous experiment to bring back her literary muse and meet her deadline: He’ll take her on a series of experimental dates meant to jump-start her romantic inspiration. Rosie has nothing to lose. Her silly, online crush is totally under control—but Lucas’s time in New York has an expiration date, and six weeks may not be enough, for either her or her deadline.

From the author of the Goodreads Choice Award winner The Spanish Love Deception, the eagerly anticipated follow-up featuring Rosie Graham and Lucas Martín, who are forced to share a New York apartment.

Review

Thoughts

Damn it this book was perfection!  It had everything that I love in a romance book. For me this was a much better read than the Spanish Love Deception. It felt like a fuller story and the characters were very likable.  Like if they made a movie from this book, it would be awesome.

Story

I thought the story was well paced. Its written in the first person from the perspectives of both Rosie and Lucas. Which I just loved. Duel POVs are my jam. I loved the slow burn of the romance between Rosie and Lucas, the pacing of them falling for each other spot on for me.

Characters

Rosie is so sweet and endearing, the only thing thank irked me was the light stalking she did of Lucas before they met. I loved her compassion for other people, she is always taking care of someone else.

Lucas, probably one of my favourite MMC I’ve read this year. Sure, he has his own set of issues and secrets but how he treats Roise is so lovely, from the cooking her meals and dates that he plans for her, it just gave me all the feels.

Conclusion

This book was so good, I wish I could go back and read it again for the first time. The story and the characters were just excellent. I’d definitely recommend.

My Rating: 5/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

About the Author

Elena is a Spanish writer, a self confessed hopeless romantic and a proud book hoarder. Now, she’s also the author of International bestseller and soon to be adapted to film The Spanish Love Deception; and instant New York Times bestseller The American Roommate Experiment. Her books are being translated to over 30 languages–which is bananas, if you ask her.

She hopes her stories make your heart skip a beat or two, your palms a little sweaty, and your cheeks flush in that rosy pink that makes other people want to peek at the page you are reading.
