The moment Rowan was introduced in Heir of Fire I knew there was something different about him. Broken and brutal, his edges were sharp as hell but every time he was on the page it was breathtaking.
As his character grew through the rest of the series I just fell for him even more. Don’t get me wrong I love the other male leads in SJMs books, but no one compares. It’s the way he loves and supports Aelin, the way he would burn the fucking world down for her. The moment he put on the gods damn oil I was done for.
And the naysayers will say oh but he punched Aelin in the face and yes that was shitty, but let’s look at the context, they were nothing to each other at that time, except 2 broken people in a very dark place, who were taking out their pain on each other. Plus, if Aelin can get past it so can I.
Others call him boring because has quiet, and I say that’s the point. That silent but deadly vibe is perfection, his dry sense of humour is endlessly entertaining and he is terrifyingly competent and something that is criminally underrated in MCC – he can handle his own shit!
It’s been 9 years of loving Rowan so I think it’s time to retire his book boyfriend status and upgrade him to book husband, because book boyfriends they come and they go, but I love this character today just as much as I did 9 years ago.
